Pros and cons

Pros

  • Hosting types span shared hosting, dedicated hosting and VPS, so the range runs from a first shared site to dedicated machines.
  • Included features cover free ssl, backups and email, so certificates, backups and mail come as standard.
  • A free plan is listed, so a small site can go up before any payment.
  • The money back window of 30 days matches the site median 30.

Cons

  • Data centres are in Brazil only, so overseas visitors sit further from the servers.
  • Support runs on chat, phone and help centre, and email is not among the listed channels.
  • The entry Hospedagem Go plan allows a single site rather than the unlimited allowance above it: Unlimited sites (1 site on the entry Hospedagem Go plan).

Who it suits

  • Brazilian small businesses wanting hosting, a domain and a site builder in one account
  • Beginners who want a free plan to start and 30 to change their mind
  • Anyone building both a site and a store, since the builder covers site and store

Who should look elsewhere

  • Buyers comparing in another currency: Locaweb lists in BRL, while Render lists at $0 and Afrihost at ZAR 84.
  • Sites needing several domains on the entry plan, since the entry Hospedagem Go plan allows a single site: Unlimited sites (1 site on the entry Hospedagem Go plan).

What it does well

Locaweb covers shared hosting, dedicated hosting and VPS, so a project can stay with one provider as it grows. Standard plans include free ssl, backups and email, covering certificates, backups and mail on your domain. Site allowances are stated as Unlimited sites (1 site on the entry Hospedagem Go plan), so the unlimited figure sits above the entry plan. Servers sit in Brazil, which keeps local visitors closest.

Free plan and trial

A free plan is listed, so a first site can go up before any payment. The paid entry plan sits next to it for when the free tier is outgrown. Paid hosting comes with a money back window of 30 days, which gives room to try hosting and the site builder before settling on a longer plan.

How Locaweb compares

Frequently asked questions

What does Locaweb cost to start?+

Entry hosting on the Hospedagem Go plan is listed at BRL 9.90 for the first 1. A free plan is also offered, so a small site can run before you spend anything. Hosting, mail and the site builder sit in the same account, which saves hunting around when you add a store later.

How much is the website builder?+

The website builder starts at BRL 16.90 and covers site and store, so you can build a site and a store on the same account. That sits apart from hosting, which starts at BRL 9.90 for the first 1 on the Hospedagem Go plan, and from the free plan you can use first.

How long do you have to change your mind?+

A money back window of 30 days applies to paid plans, so a plan that does not fit can be cancelled inside that period. For scale, the median money back period across the site is 30 and the upper quartile is 30, so Locaweb sits in the mainstream here.

Which kinds of hosting does Locaweb sell?+

The range covers shared hosting, dedicated hosting and VPS. A beginner can start on shared hosting and move to VPS or cloud as a site grows, while dedicated hosting suits a site that needs its own machine. An uptime guarantee of 99.9% is stated on the VPS line.

Where are the servers?+

Data centres are listed in Brazil, and no other region is named, so a site aimed mainly at an overseas audience is served from further away. Locaweb is headquartered in Brazil, was founded in 1997 and trades as Locaweb Serviços de Internet S/A.

How do you get help?+

Support runs through chat, phone and help centre. Chat covers quick questions, phone takes anything urgent, and the help centre handles repeat lookups. Email is not among the listed channels, so written answers arrive through chat or the help centre.

How many sites can one account hold?+

Site limits are given as Unlimited sites (1 site on the entry Hospedagem Go plan), so the entry Hospedagem Go plan carries a single site and the unlimited figure applies further up the range. That matters for freelancers or agencies juggling several client domains on one account.
